Lake havasu City takes its name from the lake by which it lies. Formed by the impoundment of Parker Dam in 1938, Lake Havasu is fed by the Colorado River.

This town captured the world's attention in 1968 when McCulloch, an industrialist, bought the London Bridge, originally built in 1831 that resided over the Thames River in England until 1962, when it began to sink into the river. Dismantled stone by stone, the bridge was reconstructed over a man-made inlet on the Colorado River.

Lake Havasu celebrates the dedication on October 10, 1971 each year during London Bridge Days in early October.

Lake Havasu is also well known to be a great place to ski, boat, jet and ski, and put in a great day of fishing in on it.
